A Story of New Beginnings

You Are Not Alone.

A story from our New Life family - Sterben

“Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6

Going into high school, I carried with me great amounts of hatred. It all happened when we moved to Canada. In a span of a couple of days, everything I have worked for just vanished. I felt betrayed and alone. This caused me to lose trust in people, so I built a wall around me and isolated myself.

I saw everything as black and white as if all the joy has been sucked out of me. On my first day in class, I had an overwhelming sense of pride and arrogance. “I should be able to get through this alone, don’t rely on anyone”. I had this mindset until August 18, 2017, the first Friday I ever attended Fusion Church.

When I was invited to church, I was hesitant of coming but my parents insisted so I decided to just go along with it. At the time, I didn’t know that it would be the most life changing event of my life. I began attending every Friday and I slowly changed for the better.

However, something was still holding me back, I was still burdened by the “loner” mindset. I still relied heavily on myself, so I barely interacted with anyone in the Church. Pride and arrogance caused me to stumble many times in my walk with God.

A year later I heard something about an upcoming camp and thought to myself “something needs to change; it can’t be like this forever”. Registering for the camp and actually going through it was the biggest hurdle I had to overcome, and it was all worth it.

In this camp, God AWAKENED me from my slumber and I began to see this world in color. The chains and the wall I built all fell that camp.

Shortly after, I joined a discipleship group and it’s all uphill from there. Being surrounded by people I can trust became a big help in my walk with God. We were accountable of each other and that made it a billion times easier to overcome trials and temptations.

There’s also the fact that I had God with me, someone who I can rely on whenever I needed it.

I wasn’t alone anymore.

From time to time I still tried to do things my way and I was immediately humbled every time. In times where I have to get out of my comfort zone, God would find a way to remind me that I am not alone. If it is for His will then God will take care of it.
